Friendship Flight: MG Reinach Precision Flying Competition

7

On Saturday, August 19, 2006, the MG Reinach held a club competition again after a long hiatus. The simple flight program—a flight time of exactly 180 seconds, landing in the marked area, plus a loop and a turn—was completed without any problems by all participants. However, light gusty winds with shifting directions made landing and maintaining the flight time not quite as easy as it might have been.

In nice, warm weather, three rounds were completed in each of the two categories (electric and combustion engines). The relaxed atmosphere, the friendly get-together, and, of course, the lunchtime barbecue made the competition a stress-free, relaxing day.

Juniors and seniors topped the leaderboard, battling it out for tenths of a second. An awards ceremony for small prizes, held between two light rain showers, rounded out the competition.

All participants, the jury, the competition organizers, and individual spectators and fans were thrilled. As a result, this competition will certainly be held again next year.

The old adage has been proven true once again: competitions, gatherings, and demonstrations are the highlights that challenge pilots. Simple rules, where technology—or rather, finances—aren’t the deciding factor, lead to success in club life. Anyone can participate; success follows, and success brings happiness.
