Noise Measurements in Breitenbach

von Tobias Käppeli

Noise pollution is becoming an increasingly serious problem for model aviation. Residential areas are expanding, zoning changes are being made, and tolerance for noise emissions is steadily decreasing. As a result, the Swiss Model Aviation Association (SMV) provides model flying clubs with guidelines and recommendations to minimize noise pollution for residents and the environment. The Breitenbach Model Aircraft Club is leading the way by subjecting all models flown by its members at the model airfield to noise measurements. Each model receives a certificate if the maximum noise limits are not exceeded. On

On Saturday, August 19, Adi Eggenberger, the SMV’s noise control manager, visited the Erlen model airfield and conducted noise measurements. The results were compared with the measurement data provided by the airfield manager there, Pascal Giger, to prevent any discrepancies and to have the obtained values officially confirmed. All models from the “Breitenbacher” group should be certified by the end of the year.
