Things are happening with the Power-Schlepp team

During the traditional spring gliding weekend organized by the SAC (Swiss-Acro-Connection) on Monte Lema (Ticino), the P-S-T president for 2006 was to be elected.

The 25 glider and tow pilots in attendance were asked to select this year’s president in an open election. The candidates were the “incumbent” president, Silvio Meier, and the “challenger,” Urs Schuppisser, who is known as the PST coordinator. Despite intense lobbying by the challenger Urs, he was soundly defeated by an overwhelming 25–0 vote! Thus, the incumbent president, Silvio Meier, was gracefully re-elected for 2006.

All of this took place in a lively (and tipsy) atmosphere at the Monte Lema restaurant; and this is truly no April Fools’ joke—it happened on Saturday evening, April 1, 2006!! Despite repeated inquiries from this reporter, no “government platform” could be coaxed out of the old/new president.

However, the author did learn that the “honorable runner-up,” Urs, plans to launch a support committee. The goal of this committee would be to turn the next vote in his favor, with a result of 20 to 5.

Now we wish the entire Power-Schlepp team a successful and accident-free season. Get to work—there’s plenty to do!!!
