The Senior Expert for Model Aircraft Sports at the Aero-Club of Switzerland, Mr. Arnold Degen, took office on April 1 of this year. His address is: Hottingerstrasse 18, Zurich 7, Tel. 4 15 13. This is also the location of the new “Model Aircraft Testing Facility,” which is headed by Mr. Degen. At the delegates’ meeting in Lugano on April 7, the new Chief Expert was introduced to the section representatives by the Central President. Subsequently, the Senior Expert inspected the model-building groups in Lugano and Locarno. Mr. Degen then traveled to Bern for three days to familiarize himself in detail with matters pertaining to model aviation at the Ae. C. S. Central Secretariat. The Central Secretariat sent a circular to all groups, asking them to indicate when they would like the Senior Expert to visit.

Mr. Degen took advantage of his stay in Bern to pay an in-depth visit to the local group as well. The following week, the senior expert traveled to St. Gallen. At the initiative of the Department of Education of the Canton of St. Gallen, a model-building course took place there at the Hadwig School, led by Mr. Degen and attended by 16 teachers from across the canton. The “Pilot 2” model was built, and participants worked an average of nine hours per day. Including the theoretical portion and flight training, the model-building course lasted six days. The Canton of St. Gallen can take pride in having done the most, to date, to introduce model aircraft building into school arts and crafts classes.
